Taxis set for 70th trip to Troon
The countdown is on to the historic Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund trip to Troon – this year celebrating its 70th birthday.
Glasgow Taxis Ltd is the proud main supporter of the event with our members and drivers forming the bulk of the 150-strong fleet which will take 300 children with special educational needs to the Ayrshire coast on Wednesday, June 17.
The 70th annual trip was launched with help from pupils at East Park School in Maryhill, which has participated in the event each and every year since it began. This year, the pupils and teachers of East Park are celebrating an anniversary of their own as the school is now in its 140th year – so the Troon trip was born when the school itself was 70!
On June 17, our taxis in fancy dress will take all those children, their parents and carers from Glasgow to the Ayrshire seaside for a day to remember.
The famous event is attended by hundreds of well-wishers at the traditional starting point of Kelvin Way, before the taxis weave through Glasgow’s city centre and southside then on to Troon, to be welcomed by even more enthusiastic supporters.
Stephen Flynn, Vice Chairman of Glasgow Taxis Ltd, said: “The Troon outing is a brilliant day out for all those children and it’s an event we are delighted to support year after year.
“The 70th birthday makes it even more special and I know there will be a huge turnout at Kelvin Way and across the city to wave the children on their way.”
